After trying out the Original Cartridge from VUSE, now we’re moving on to Crema.  So, remember when we said the taste of the original was smooth? Well scratch that against this e-liquid.

Smooth Taste

This flavor’s smooth taste was nothing new coming from VUSE. But for people who have a serious sweet tooth, this is the ultimate flavor in their lineup.

The taste of Crema is a combination of vanilla and caramel, with a smoky undertone. This makes for a strikingly different experience compared to the Original or assumingly our next contender, Menthol. Where they pack a more intense flavor, the Crema is soft and doesn’t have an overpowering tobacco taste.

To best describe it, it’s very much like ice cream, or s’mores without the chocolate. That can be a bummer to some, but for us it was heaven at the end of a busy work day or as a quick work-break treat. Speaking of treating, you can also create some thick clouds with this flavor after each puff, if the visual component of smoking is important for you to replicate.

A Sweet But Powerful Punch

Traditional tobacco lovers may not like the Crema due to its lack of an intense tobacco note, but we’d recommend for beginning vapers that never smoked before or for people that don’t want a heavy aftertaste.

This is the flavor that you can pull on in the morning and enjoy with breakfast in the company of folks that maybe aren’t quite on board with vaping just yet. And to some, that’s the perfect middle ground between personal enjoyment and group contentment.

Running through a heavy drag session, we enjoyed the sweet decadence of the Crema for about three hours. But casual users can expect a good week’s worth of use if you plan to make this your morning smoke (like some of us).

VUSE has several other flavors, but the Crema is more than just special. The only downside to this flavor is it’s a VUSE Solo exclusive. So it doesn’t work it other e-cigs, including with the other VUSE devices like the Ciro or the Vibe. The upside, however, is that it’s a flavor that’s becoming a fan favorite – so chances of it being discontinued are slim.

In Conclusion

Can you enjoy the Crema and figuratively have your cake too?

Yes, yes you can. You can get the same high without completely tasting the loud nicotine in the Crema. As the name suggested, it’s a creamy dessert-style liquid that best for sweet lovers and newcomers that want a softer introduction to vaping. But be prepared to buy the VUSE Solo as a staple in your vape product arsenal to enjoy it.

Hopefully in the future the Crema will expand to be compatible with more VUSE devices, but the Solo is $11 so it won’t break your bank if you wanted to splurge on ice cream in an e-cig. And honestly, that’s a steal for airborne ice-cream.

And after a three hour drag session, they’re right. They are also eco friendly, great for vapor users that care for the environment like myself. Vuse cigs are also one of the few cigalike offerings that only come as rechargeable, not disposable. And down to the specifics, the cartridge is made of food grade glycerin and propylene glycol.

Like all VUSE E-Cig refills, these came two to a pack and deliver consistent flavor in each puff. There’s no bitterness, and the level of freshness that comes from each drag is amazing.

I can see why they market having a “perfect puff every time”. Each puff I’ve taken was almost completely consistent. VUSE has several other flavors available for you to try, so don’t feel pressured to stick with the Solo Original Cartridge.

In Conclusion

So does the Original hold water? Well, yes. But is it a good product?

What can we say? With the Original you have an all-rounder on a quality product that’s good for a decent tobacco transition and will appease vapor users that want that same kick without damaging the environment or your body. Plus it’s a good place to start for trying a serious concentration of nicotine.

I first met this device in its concept form at the 2018 vape convention in Shenzhen. YiHi was really excited about making a transition into ultra portable devices and promised they would get it right before they released the product. Details on what has changed I cannot provide but I can state that my experience with the device at the time was very thrilling. Lets dive down and see what the final provides and whether this is a device worthy of ownership. Ok here’s the YiHi SX Mini 13W Mi Class Pod Mod,

Design:

YiHi itself has been very plain in terms of design over its history, perhaps its their thing but somehow you know a YiHi unit when you see it. The metals presented in this unit carry that same narrative, while we are seeing new color options for the first time from this hardware maker the heavy emphasis on metals is ever present. For fans of JUUL and similar small devices with no heft to them this device is going to require a bit of getting used to. It’s light in relative terms but definitely outweighs most of the USB shaped pod mods. All that metal and those components are there to be felt and you shall. The tubular design of this unit is slim but tall, they had to squeeze in several things to make this thing unique. You will notice this once you hold it to vape.

Durability:

Here is where the metal factor always comes into play for Yih and YiHi’s experience comes into play. I have dropped my unit countless times and haven’t really put much of a dent or a crack in the body.

Coils:

The SX Mini Mi Class Pod Mod uses a ceramic coil with a 1.5 ml capacity. The coil cartridge requires you spin open the drip tip to reach the fill ports, this design is very similar to that of sub ohm tanks. The typical 30mg salt nic liquid full tank has lasted me approximaately75 to 85 puffs before going bone dry. Chain vaping successfully has gone ok, you do feel a bit of flavor loss after the 8th puff so setting the unit down is advised.

Flavor:

Flavor with these coils is decent, as with most vape set ups the liquid flavor itself is vital here. I found that citrus and fruits performed better than desserts and tobaccos. The coil does provide considerably better flavor after its been in use a full day so perhaps the break-in period is a big factor in the experience.

Clouds:

This is by no means a cloud machine so if you need that look elsewhere. It’s mouth to lung design makes this a lower cloud production experience. That is not to say you won’t be making noticeable clouds but they won’t be anywhere near the levels of other units. Closer to a wispy quickly vanishing plume.

Verdict:

The folks over at Lost Vape can rest easy, this device while beautiful and a great performer isn’t a threat to the Orion at all. We’d love to see some improvement in coil options and perhaps some airflow control option. For the price its a beast and certainly better than most in its field. The 400mah battery is a very limiting feature and 1.5ml of capacity just doesn’t cut it these days. For the price and the potential plus performance this is a must buy if the price of an Orion unit turns you off.

The Mag Grip 100w Box Mod is SmokTech’s follow up to their popular and best selling Mag box mod. This smaller, more compact, and redesigned unit features the capacity for one single 20700 or 21700 battery or alternatively an 18650 battery via an included adapter sleep. With a max voltage output of 9 volts and temperature control features that cover titanium, stainless steel, nickle this mod really packs a punch in terms of fire to response timing. A vast improvement over the lag experienced with the original unit. One of few things to consider a con with this unit is the lack of being able to put it into a pocket but that’s a sacrifice that’s traded off for the ergonomics of it’s design. While you could fit this into regular pant pocket if you were slimmer or straight legged pants that bit of lip that creates a seamless relationship with your hand will catch on your pants. Another con with this mod is the paint finish, while gorgeous at the time of unboxing that beauty can be shortlived if like me you tend to occassionally drop or tip your mod over. Don’t expect this mod to be an all day and all situation mod because in harsh conditions it’ll start showing off its wear and tear like a badge of honor. For those interested the temperature control features are pretty stellar in titanium mode but I don’t vape nickle so we won’t touch that one.

The starter kit comes with the revamped TFV8 Baby V2 Sub Ohm Tank which seems to have tackled some of the leaking issues of it’s predecessor and it’s coils seem to be more durable and more flavorful. One of the most common gripes with Smok over the years has been the longevity of it’s coil or rather the lack thereof. To find the full potential of this tank try the mesh coils that are now offered as part of its big selection of options.

A few products make you go wow! The Lost Vape Orion Pod System was one of those products for me. The only drawback this device has is that in the states it does not include pods. Easily solved as the pods are prety cheap and very durable. Ok let’s get to it!

The Lost Vape Orion Pod Mod System features the most advanced chipset in any pod system currently on the market. Featuring a DNA GO chip from Evolve that pairs up with their escribe software and allows you to fully customize your vape experience. The pod mod is made of steel and is just gorgeous in just about any color you choose, while the base is steel you have the option of resin, steel, or carbon fiber as the options for the rest of the body. With an internal 950mah battery that charges pretty fast and has lasted me an average of 8 hours of full usage between charges when running the device at 15 watts. Charging is a standard USB port so no need for special cables. The DNA Chip features replay mode which when activated replicates your last puff until deactivated. This is a great feature that comes into play when you find the right setting or capture the perfect puff.

The device itself is gorgeous and light, tiny to the pam. But how are the NON-INCLUDE PODS?!? The come in the options of 0.25 or 0.5 ohms. They feature a screw on fill feature that locks your liquid into the chamber and has shown minimal leaking but only after five refills to the pod. Each pod features the option of mouth to lung or direct lung inhaling by simply turning and opening or restricting the airflow. Each pod has a 3ml capacity when filled ot the brim. The break in process involves filling the pod and closing all airflow, taking several puffs to encourage wicking and then letting the pod sit for a bit. Full flavor isn’t evident until about ten to fifteen puffs but then it’s very pronounced by pod mod standards. While this may be a pain the result is very good, let’s just say that it’s not an enjoyable process and could be better managed by dropping some drops down the mouthpiece but you may potentially flood the coil itself.

One of the cool features of this system is that it’ll work with both salt nic liquids and regular liquids up to 70% vg. I don’t really recommend chain vaping with liquid that thick but it works and it works well. I tend to do five puffs on average and let the the wick soak up again. This typically becomes a faster process the more the wick breaks in.

Overall: This device is great but it requires a bit of work and that’s not a bad thing. The results are tremendous once you go through its ritual. The pods at a price of $4.50 a piece is great because so far each pod for me is on its sixth refill and still performing well. A few settings we recommend are below for your use. These settings are for high side vg level liquids in the range of 3, 6, and 9 milligrams of nicotine. I did burn out two pods going into the 30 watt and 35 watt setting range. For salt nicotine the pods are good to go at the preset wattages which I haven’t touched because I enjoy them.

So Pod Mods are all the rage in vaping. We are also keenly aware that “best” is a preference based thing, so we bring you the five best for you to choose from. Personally I carry three of these around but then again these types of devices now account for 50% of all sales in vaping.  So let’s get started figuring out which of these five is perfect for you.

The JUUL by JUUL Vapor: The JUUL itself is an electronic e-cigarette device that is inescapable. Everywhere you go it can be found for sale. This is because it has become synonymous with the product category of pod mods. The draw to JUUL is that it is better known than most and offers an extremely simple introduction into vaping. People tend to refer smokers to JUUL simply because it’s what’s best known and some can argue it has proven to be quite effective in transitioning smokers into vaping. The thing that makes the JUUL such a compelling device is that you can’t really escape it. Part of the draw is the nicotine satisfaction, and though this satisfaction can only be achieve through their proprietary pods which come in packs of four and have an MSRP of $15.99 (with some exceptions: Some stores have been known mark up these pods as high as $25 for a four pack). There is something special about the nicotine used in these pods because vapers definitely swear by it and one of the major reasons this ranks as our top pod mod is because it is a device you could hand to an octogenarian and they would be capable of using it within minutes.

Some of the cons with the JUUL is that you are not going to find the same experience in other pods, the salt/alkaloid nicotine comparison just isn’t close to many who use it. So once you experience you might find other types of pods to just not have that same oomph. Another con is the 0.7ml capacity of each pod, if you were a heavy smoker and picked up a JUUL you might find yourself going through pods at an alarming rate if you aren’t careful. There are third party pods for the JUUL but most just don’t live up to the original and again that thing that makes the JUUL pod special to you might not be there. Again, this is all subjective, there are vapers who happily refill their JUUL pods with salt nicotine liquids and don’t miss the original flavor or nicotine.

The JUUL comes in different offerings. You can buy the basic kit with no included pods for $34.99. It also comes as a starter kit that offers the device as well as four pods in a variety flavors for $49.99. The pods can be found online for $15.99 per pack.

Baton V2 Pod Mod by Baton Vapor: Baton Vapor really surprised us with the V2 of their device. While the original offering came up short on our meter the sequel is nothing short of splendid. One thing the Baton V2 Pod Mod uses that the JUUL doesn’t is the micro usb charging port it offers. It’s design is just a tad bit bigger than the JUUL but the pods and the airflow are totally different. The thing that Baton got correct was creating this device alongside the development of their own line of liquids. Why is this so good? They make their own salt nicotine in-house and it’s quite honestly the best outside of the formula JUUL concocted.

The device provides much improved airflow, definitely better airflow than a JUUL. Each pod can be filled to 1ml capacity.  One of the big positives in this device is that it features japanese cotton wicking which has become quite standard in vaping. It definitely has an impact on flavor and cloud production. The device itself features a 350mah which isn’t exactly world changing but its still more power than that of the JUUL. The kit includes two pods as well as charging cable alongside the device.

The only con I can find with this device is the battery life, for a device a bit bigger than the famed JUUL it only gives us an extra 100mah of power. While that can be countered by its easy to charge just about anywhere design, someone at Baton Vapor pay attention..we want more battery life! Try the glacier mint by Baton Vapor, it gives any menthol in the industry a run for it’s money. If you feel inclined to really use that second include pod mix up a bit of glacier mint with their fruit flavor for a really awesome pod mod experience. The Baton Vapor V2 Pod Mod comes in at $34.99, with replacement pods coming in at $9.99 for a 2 pack. Each bottle of their liquid retails for $9.99 for a 10ml. A bottle will last you at least 10 refills of your pods so in the long run it is cheaper than most of the top 5 products listed on this page.

Suorin Air by Sourin: Sourin, the company that came out of nowhere and rocked the industry. What stands out about the Suorin Air Pod Mod? It holds 2ml of liquid per pod, it looks like a thicker credit card, and looks like a very very very thin wallet when placed in the pocket. Sometimes success can be measured by convenience and that convenience can be something as small as the capacity of a pod. Unfortunately, the likelihood of enjoying the full 2ml capacity on one charge is very low due to a 400mah internally battery. Everything can’t be perfect folks.
